The Golden Triangle – The Alexandre III bridge, the Palais des Congrès and the Grande Arche

The Alexandre III bridge Inaugurated for the 1900 World Fair, this Art Nouveau masterpiece is often considered as Paris’s most splendid bridge, with its lamps, cherubs and nymphs. The columns at both ends help to anchor the piers that absorb the enormous forces caused by such a large single-span arch. The four winged horses on the pillars represent Sciences, Art, Trade and Industry.

The building of the “Grand Palais des Beaux-Arts” began in 1897 for the 1900 World Fair. This élégant, though large monument combines an imposing classical store façade with a riot of Art Nouveau ironwork. lt has a splendid glass roof, colossal bronze statues of flying horses and chariots at its four corners. The main Have is 240 métres long and displays font columns. The top of the cupola reaches 44 mètres.

The “Petit Palais” The

AIso built for the 1900 World Fair, the Petit Palais belongs to the same architectural group as the Grand Palais -they were built according to the plans of the same architect­and the Bridge Alexander 1/1. Reopened in 2005, the classical façade of Italien influences with its péristyle and its interior garder is the first work of art visitors tan see.
