Thai chef Oth Sombath is back in Paris, with a new address on the swanky rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré. Remarkably talented interior designer Patrick Jouin, Alain Ducasse’s favourite, is responisble for the stunning townhouse space with a sleek “Asia in the 21st century” look that makes references to both NASA in the sixties and Thai temple architecture. To wit, the top-floor dining room, the chicest place to eat here, has a stunning wall covered with gold leaf. Returning to Paris after Saint Trop, Sombath’s cooking demonstrates a certain urbane reserve and very good manners, traits that might confuse anyone who likes rustic Thai food though his suave Franco-Thai cooking is generally delicious. To be sure, this place is pricey and the service needs to take a deep breath and relax, but for anyone who loves intelligently creative fusion food and is also looking for a stunning new setting for a meal in Paris, Oth Sombath is just the ticket. 184 rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, 8th
